I am a full professor of science education at the University of Oslo, Norway. My research focuses on effective and equitable education. I study how teacher and teaching quality shape students’ learning, motivation, and resilience across contexts and countries.
I grew up in Borneo, the world’s third-largest island, where access to quality education is often limited. As a first-generation student, I know firsthand how unequal opportunities shape young people’s lives.
This experience drives my commitment to research that reduce inequities and strengthen learning for students who need it most. At the University of Oslo, I use large-scale data to understand how various educational settings can reduce barriers and support inclusion.

I am passionate about making a difference in education and collaborating with others who share this vision. I am open to new opportunities to work on research that can inform practitioners and policymakers, and to mentor young researchers and scholarship seekers in my areas of expertise.
I work with scholars, institutions, and policy organisations on projects that advance effective and equitable learning environments.
